PHCPI and the Global Fund join forces to strengthen primary health care around the world

The Primary Health Care Performance Initiative (PHCPI) is delighted to welcome the Global Fund as our newest core partner!

At a pivotal moment for health systems around the world, there is a historic need and opportunity to strengthen primary health care so that no one, anywhere, is left behind. Delivering integrated, people-centered, and quality health services in every community through a PHC approach is the key to tackling today’s biggest health challenges: from beating COVID-19 and building resilience to future threats, to ending the epidemics of HIV, TB and malaria, to achieving universal health coverage and Health For All.

As the largest multilateral investor in sustainable systems for health, the Global Fund plays a critical role in global health. The Global Fund’s long-standing commitment to building robust and resilient systems for health includes:

  • Supporting programs through critical health care delivery points both in PHC facilities and in the community that provide a range of services, including interventions to prevent mother-to- child transmission of HIV, screen pregnant women and children for TB, and ensure early diagnosis of HIV in infants;
  • Strengthening data systems and data to ensure PHC measurement is at the heart of evaluating and advancing equitable health systems;
  • Bolstering health systems strengthening for equitable response and recovery by improving procurement and supply chains.

The Global Fund’s partnership in PHCPI will open doors to greater alignment and collaboration across all PHCPI partners’ health systems strengthening and primary health care efforts. It also signals our shared commitment to remove barriers in access to care, ensure services are delivered in an integrated, people-centered way, leverage more and better PHC data to maximize our impact, and uphold the right to health for everyone.

The Global Fund joins PHCPI partners including the World Bank, World Health Organization, UNICEF, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Ariadne Labs and Results for Development.
